I'm very glad that you're a webgamer.ru member simsalabim. Good karma
I'll begin with this
"prototype of C/Delphi function" you mentioned... I'll be honest, I had no idea what you were talking about when you said that?

I didn't know if you were referring to a fixed function in the original Mafia game? Or something some 3rd party application (e.g. a trainer) allows for?
My number 1 problem has always been the enemy's ability to "seemingly" shoot at a faster rate than Tommy can. It feels like an eternity between load times (cocking the next round into the chamber). I know side-rolling reloads the rifle instantly, but the "intermission" between shots is what always gets me killed. Up 'til now I've been using the games standard Mosin Nagant (slow) fire-rate. This is now over, from this point on I'll be employing this very cool trick you showed me to get rapid-fire happening. Thank you so much for sharing this piece of information.

It's of
EXTREME importance, and makes all the difference. Maybe people were already aware of this? But I definitely wasn't!!
One more thing on this terrific revelation. The moment you press the [backwards] key you start moving backwards (obviously). And shooting in rapid succession with the Mosin Nagant produces high recoil (the rifle jerks up violently with every shot) in-turn placing your bullets up and up on the vertical positioning. The only way I've found to limit the angle of elevation (from the backwards movement - NOT the rifle recoil) is to back Tommy up against a wall, so that he cannot "reverse" any further. Is there another key combo which limits the height of the recoil? Otherwise it means this trick should be used at medium and short ranges, because at long range there's over a metre difference between the first bullet and last bullet.
I like to do things “my way”

even if there’s a simpler less problematical way to do it (e.g. using the Micro BM4WD, using the Tommy gun etc.) I still prefer to sneak around on foot like a ninja and ONLY use the Mosin Nagant, nothing else. But this nifty tip I'm sure will help solve my problem. Thanks a million!
Just on the sniper rifle for a moment... it does the most damage over long distance, correct? But it still takes anywhere between 3 to 5 shots to kill an enemy with it (depending on whether or not you hit their heads). It takes 4 "headshots" to kill that first guy behind the concrete train block (even if you hit him between the eyes, literally). I see now that a continuous attack (at medium range) with the Tommy gun is much more effective than trying to snipe from a distance. Silly me, I figured the sniper rifle was king - seeing as we're given it right from the very beginning. But it's the machine gun which holds that title.
Another problem I have with the enemy is that they don't always stay in the same spot. And I saw how you drew 'enemy number 2' out of that building by shooting the door - or should I say shooting him through the door, however there've been several occasions when I killed the first guy (behind the concrete train block) ran over to him (along the wall) but then this 2nd guy ran out of the building, over to the concrete block and started attacking me!! So it makes a HUGE difference when they're just sitting ducks, or not! Also I wonder if stopping the game-play by changing weapons (with a menu) instead of just scrolling with the mouse through the weapons might have something to do with who fires the next round? Because tell me this... when you get shot by an enemy with a Mosin Nagant, how do you recover? For me once the process of being hit begins, I can't fire back, and I can't manoeuvre Tommy so that I get a chance to fire back! I get hit, fall over and as I'm getting back up I get shot again, then again. And no matter how many times I try to shoot or even side-roll, you cannot stop this from happening. Conceivably I'm playing a "special version" of the AM?
And furthermore, the guy you kill near the 2nd Teleporter (where you drive the Lassiter) will not and does not stay with his back turned to me. This is why I'm getting confused here fellas, none of my enemies let themselves be easy targets. I've tried to follow your exact same method (even before watching your video many times) sneak over to the container, draw him over to the corner, then sneak around the container "behind him". NEVER once has he had his back to me - he ALWAYS turns around to face me, which as you might imagine makes him all the more difficult to kill.
And just going back to that 2nd guy in the building again... I recently tried killing him with the Colt .45, by entering the side door and attacking him from the door that's behind him. It works well, provided you reload quickly, because even 7 rounds from the Colt won't kill him, and then it's "his turn to return fire", but if you side-roll and pump another 7 in him he goes down. I can do this without losing a single point of health sometimes (not always) but sometimes. It's just another tactic to consider, because there are no set rules for this mission. When I asked Mike for some tips he said: "make the enemy fight one another", and "use the cars". I do this often, especially the guy in the blue shirt (near the pump action shotgun) and the guy hidden amongst those planks of wood (dark grey clothing), plus another guy (in beige jacket) who attacks from various locations. What I'm trying to say is that the enemy moves around, at least they definitely do in my game. I know there's a systematic way of dealing with them according to you guys, but they rarely ever comply with that system when I play.
In the past I always stuck to the "road side" of the Port (not near the water). Then I methodically killed my way back to the Port entrance (where the last balefire is). I usually “clean out” the warehouse where that Mafia mission is when you have to load the truck with cigars. After I clear out that area, I make my way back by first taking out the two snipers on the red cranes then Big Dick in the corner and then straight down the middle to where you got the Lassiter. And this is where I've always died. Those guys who are in the middle warehouse near the waters edge.
I'm not taking anything away from your demo simsalabim, it's text-book assassination! And I understand a 45 minute "civil war"

hehe makes for a VERY BIG .mpeg, but we didn't see you kill Morello...

just kidding. I can tell from your skill you're obviously capable of doing it, but a video with the whole mission completed in the shortest amount of time would be excellent to watch. I wonder... what is the fastest time someone can beat this mission?
Re BM4WD... I think it's safe to say Mike placed that Micro-BM4WD there for a good reason, to be used by the people who can't finish this mission with the sniper rifle alone. What a teaser though eh? Putting it up high on a dais (so-to-speak) in plain sight, thereby forcing those players who desire it to scale ship containers for it. LOL!
One more mistake I often make is not switching Super Constitution ON before I go in. No really! It probably sounds like a dumb mistake but you know how Super Powers distort the screen, makes Tommy look thinner and the camera view a weird perspective? Well I'm not fond of that when it comes to screenshots (as you can see from my collection of them). Whenever Tommy dies (with Super Powers on and distorting the screen) and you Try Again, the camera reverts to the normal view (not distorted) but Tommy still has Super Speed switched on. IMO this is the best way to play the Alive mod. I discussed this with Mike when Super Powers was first added to the AM but he said it's not his fault, it's a limitation of the Mafia game engine. Lame excuse on my part I know, but I'm always trying to get good screenshots whenever I play, that too might be why I've been failing on such a grand scale here. Next time I play Fraps won't be running and we'll see if I can finally beat this thing? Because when you die in the Port mission your health goes back to 100. There's a HUGE difference between 100 and 199. Better to restart the savegame instead I feel...
Maybe MikeMouse can answer some questions for us...
How accurate are the enemy? At close-range? (100%?) What about long-range? What’s their chance for a successful hit? If you’re moving? If you’re standing still? If you're moving with Super Speed on?
How much damage do they do? Same as per normal weapon? Or is there something added? I recall seeing Tommy lose half his health from 1 sniper rifle bullet. Does that mean I got shot in the head? We put 3 bullets into the first guys head and he's still standing.
Obviously the enemy has different amounts of health (can be determined by the amount of bullets needed to kill them) but for example, the big guy in the tuxedo. He has more health than the others, yes? It's only logical seeing as he’s a bigger human being. Or have you made it that a shotgun is best for killing him? You can pump hundreds of rounds of ammo into a Lassiter gang member and they take it, but one close-range shot with a Lupara or Pump-action shotgun and they’re dead. What's the deal here oh cruel one?
This has become
very long. Just wanted to say
a crowning effort on your part simsalabim. I haven't seen your kind of passion in a long time (way back in the day when Mafia obsession was fresh). Very nice... swift helpful response.
